Are you going on a camping trip this summer? Choose your kit wisely. Your choice of camping setup can make the difference between an invigorating back-to-nature experience and an uncomfortable endurance exercise. Believe me: I've taken several camping trips every year, for most of my life, and I've spent time on both ends of that spectrum.
Below I have put together the equipment I would recommend for a comfortable and enjoyable camping trip: reliable tents, comfortable sleeping bags, comfortable sleeping pads and effective lighting. I spent two years testing outdoor kits and included some of my favorite brands and products into the mix.
A quick online search will tell you that you can spend any amount of money on camping gear. For most of my picks below, I've focused on mid-range options. They don't cost a fortune, but are still of good enough quality to see you through multiple trips and won't let you down by falling apart, breaking or leaking after one night.
These picks are for a casual, average camping trip – they're not specialized for hardcore hiking, nor are they luxurious, bulky picks for glampers (although if you're looking for home comforts, I have a separate glamping collection you should check out). However, I've included a few more off-grid options for fun: Lifestraw, which allows you to drink safely from any water source, and a power station with solar panels to keep your devices charged when you're out of power. Happy camping!
