Today marks the long-awaited Google Fitbit Air announcement, and the tech giant has revealed that pre-orders for its upcoming screenless fitness tracker begin now, ahead of its launch on May 26. The Whoop rival, which features a fabric band and weighs just 12g, is priced at $99.99 / £84.99 (around AU$140), making it a lightweight and minimalist option for health monitoring.
The features are exactly what you'd expect, including heart rate, step counting, calorie burning, skin temperature, and blood oxygen sensors. All of that data is fed into the new Google Health app, which offers all the usual exercise, sleep tracking, and health guidance. You also get seven days of battery life and fast charging support, making it a device you can “set it and forget it” quite easily.

Should you buy Google Fitbit Air?
As someone who still uses an old and slowly dying Fitbit Versa 2, I may be tempted to upgrade to the Google Fitbit Air.
Price is key, and at under $100/£100, it's definitely in the budget. Battery life is solid, up to 7 days, and it supports all the standard health, exercise, and sleep tracking features I like about my current Fitbit. So, if you are looking for a simple health and fitness tracker on a budget, it could be a very smart purchase.
However, if you're a power user who likes to access your phone from your wrist, or perhaps you're a running enthusiast who wants GPS tracking for your runs, then I can see the Google Fitbit Air having few features for you. If that's the case, I suggest you read our guide to the best smartwatches for all of our latest recommendations that may best suit your needs.
