Bridgerton Season 3 only made its debut on Netflix last Thursday (May 16), but it's already setting records on the world's most popular streamer.
According to the list of the 10 best TV shows on Netflix, in its first week, BridgertonThe latest installment of, Season 3, Part 1, racked up a whopping 45.1 million total views and 165.2 million hours of streamed viewing.
Not only that, but BridgertonThe third season is the period drama's biggest opening weekend to date. As The Hollywood Reporter explains, Season 2 could only muster 22.7 million views in its opening weekend on the world's best streaming service, so its successor is certainly off to a really strong start.
There are some caveats to keep in mind when it comes to comparing BridgertonHowever, the last two seasons. For one thing, the first viewing figures for Season 2 were spread over a slightly shorter period: three days instead of the four from which Season 3 data was collected. Since the second season of one aired of the best Netflix shows in March 2022, Netflix has also changed the way it calculates its audience data. While Bridgerton Season 3 is outperforming its predecessor, so Netflix's realignment of what constitutes a “view” means it was always going to get more impressive viewing numbers than Season 2 did.
With season 3 part 2 set to arrive on June 13, Bridgerton is sure to see another spike in its viewing figures next month as fans flock to either watch its next batch of episodes or watch season 3 in its entirety. .
That said, it won't be the only period drama waiting for your bodice to rise in June. Yesterday (May 21), Prime Video released the official trailer for my lady jane, an irreverently funny and raunchy reimagining of the story that many observers have described as a “romantasia.” Here's the plot synopsis: “Inspired by the best-selling book, my lady jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII's son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Gray is not beheaded, and neither is her scoundrel husband, Guildford.
“At the center of this new swashbuckling series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane [played by newcomer Emily Bader]who is shocked to be crowned queen and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… my lady jane “It is an epic story of true love and great adventures.”
We already knew that the fun royal twist of Prime Video on Netflix Bridgerton was on its way on June 27, but first-look images, which you can see above, suggest it will be even more vulgar and wildly fun than its sibling set in that era. But let's go back to Bridgerton. Season 3 not only broke the show's viewing record, but also recorded the highest weekly view count of any Netflix series since mid-2023, which is when the streamer began ranking shows based on viewing numbers and the hours. Clearly, none of us can get enough of the scandal-laden, historical romantic drama.
The most impressive thing about season 3 is that it has become another commercial success among viewers despite its lackluster reviews. The Independent said that while lead star Nicola Coughlan is “magnificent” as Penelope Featherington, the show is “losing steam” with a production design that appears created by AI. In stark contrast, Variety praised the chemistry between Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) and Penelope (the couple affectionately nicknamed 'Polin') in particular; his reviewer opines: “There's something about watching the bond between Colin and Penelope transform from comfortably platonic to yearning and passionate that elevates this journey.
The Variety reporter goes on to add: “Coughlan and Newton have always had a beautiful relationship, but watching Colin realize that he sexually desires Penelope, which is revealed through his fixation on her lips and a newfound fascination with everything that she does, creates a sizzling tension throughout season 3 part 1 that threatens to spill off the screen. In fact, during a carriage ride after a dance at the end of episode 4, 'Old Friends,' it almost does. “. Will Season 3, Part 2 have enough to build on the huge success of its predecessor, or my lady jane Usurp it as the best period drama out there? We will know in June.
