Hermès opens renovated store in Shenyang, China

French luxury house Hermès has revealed its newly renovated store at MixC Mall in Shenyang, one of the most historic and culturally prominent cities in northeastern China. The renovated and only store in the city showcases the sixteen Hermes trades in an immersive nature-themed environment. In a rhythmic murmur, the custom design reimagines migratory birds flying through the city's changing seasons, making use of radiant colors, diverse textures and vibrant contrasts.

The façade is dotted with ice blue and dark blue lacquered columns that vary in tone and density, displaying a pattern reminiscent of the elegant flight formations of birds. Its opacity interaction changes with each viewpoint to draw natural light into the store and draw visitors inside.

A bright open space spans two floors, creating a serene atmosphere where winter whites are splashed with earthy colors that echo the rhythm of the seasons. The stores' two entrances greet visitors with Faubourg's signature mosaic, which is embedded in a shiny mother-of-pearl terrazzo and lines the floor of the women's silk area. A sunset wall that fades from ocher yellow to soft peach draws the eye to the beauty and perfume area and past fashion jewelry. To the right, the homeware and equestrian collections lead to leather goods, men's ready-to-wear and shoes. Each universe is accented with abstract fire red, orange and pink rugs that nod to Shenyang's autumnal red and spring flowers, and warm tones contrast with cool-colored wall fabrics. A terrazzo spiral staircase ascends to the first floor, revealing the feminine universe, as well as the jewelry and watch areas. The walls on this level are wrapped in mineral stucco, whose shades of silver gray and ivory enhance the space with organic textures.

Hermès has unveiled its newly renovated store at MixC Mall in Shenyang, China, featuring a nature-themed design inspired by migratory birds and the changing seasons. The store, designed by RDAI, spans two floors and showcases Hermès' sixteen métiers with vibrant colors, textures and dynamic partitions. The space also includes works of art from the Hermès collection.

Imagined by Parisian architecture agency RDAI, the contemporary design unfolds with painted and layered partitions that provide a dynamic environment, guiding visitors through a journey of changing landscapes and natural colors. Soft curves, gently highlighted by luminous coves, trace the surface and ceilings, offering a warm atmosphere in which to discover each trade. The spirit of the house shines through the iconic Grecques lighting fixtures and bookplates placed on the floor, the company said in a press release.

The store is adorned with works of art from the Émile Hermès collection and the Hermès Collection of Contemporary Photographs. Lithographed plates of French artist JC Werner's elegant bird watercolors, along with Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide's Birds with Tree, a striking black-and-white photograph of a flock of birds mingling with a tree, deepen the store's narrative. These works hang alongside French artist Pierre-Olivier Dubaut's Le Départ des Drags, a horse and carriage scene that hints at the house's equestrian heritage.
