Denzilpatrick adds a touch of military rigor to soft summer silhouettes

Like most Brits, designers Daniel Gayle and James Bosley of Denzilpatrick can't wait for the sun to show its face and for summer to finally begin. Unfortunately, it's a very short, blink-and-you'll-miss-it season in these parts, but designers are ready to savor every drop of sunshine.

With that expectation in mind, they sent out cheerful electric orange swim shorts (worn with matching inflatable armbands); thin cardigan-style tops and long, languid ribbed-knit tanks, all suitable for poolside shenanigans on the rooftop of Soho House in Shoreditch, or more likely just a day spent lounging in the pub's garden.

There were also more elegant looks, inspired by marching bands and amateur music club uniforms, all with a summery touch. Designers offered a new take on the suit, sending out safari-style blouses tucked into flowy pants printed with scrolls and swirls, or more fitted pants embellished with bits of gold leaf.

The loose-fitting, boxy jackets came with brass buttons on the pockets and epaulets, while the double-breasted ones had stripes on the sleeves. Even the most casual T-shirts looked stylish with military braiding on the front and over one shoulder.

It was whimsical, layered and, most importantly, commercial. Although the business is primarily direct-to-consumer, the designers have been picking up retail customers in countries such as China, Japan and South Korea, where their bespoke London fashion brand should do well.
