Chris Leba's 'Punk is Forever' Spirit Continues: R13 Resort 2025 Review

“If you look at a Porsche from 1960 until now, you can see that it is the same except it evolves, and I feel like all of our designs are like that. It never comes out of nowhere, but rather builds on previous seasons,” said Chris Leba of his continued design philosophy with R13.

Their resort draws on the brand's punk ethos, twisting traditional and classic silhouettes and creating wardrobes with contrasting proportions.

Take, for example, the first look from his collection: an elevated, moody version of the leather biker jacket with jeans and a T-shirt, which Leba called the “Marlon Brando look.” Another version came in cropped, fitted proportions and was paired with a stellar pair of bright blue ruched cargoes, while tiny denim jackets with extended sherpa collars contrasted nicely with flared, long-legged leather pants.

Leba described denim and leather as the yin and yang of cool, and here they are. In addition to denim, he took advantage of fall's increased focus on leather jackets with leather bottoms, like olive green leather flare pants or cargo shorts with athletic waistband details, as a resource, so as not to “compete against ourselves.” ”.

He continued to push the boundaries of classics by “mixing” fabrications, he said, seen with a corduroy-canvas hybrid pant; military jackets with colored and fabric lining, and countless capes with contrasting ribbon details inspired by vintage parachutes (on dresses, skirts, etc.). The looks were designed with more contrasting proportions in mind: loose, clingy hoodies paired with rolled-up, skin-baring tops; a big knotted cardigan with spread collar or flowy leopard capes etc. Topped off with hardware-embellished platforms and new handbags or shoes connected to legwarmers, the looks radiated a strong mood, but were ultimately easy to wear.

“It's really surprising to me: deep down in this girl, she is so timeless because these elements are alive today among young people: it becomes a language that is spoken. It's no longer about, 'Oh, that's this trend.' Punk is forever,” Leba said of her ultra-modern collection.
