Xavi Simons renews his contract with Leipzig amid Bayern Munich's interest

Bayern Munich's hopes of signing Dutch striker Xavi Simons have been shelved for now after the player agreed to extend his loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain for another season.

“Speculation about Xavi's future can finally be put to rest,” Leipzig said in a statement on Monday, announcing the loan deal.

The club said the 21-year-old will complete a medical on Monday and then train individually before joining the rest of the squad on Tuesday.

Bayern have made no secret of their admiration for Simons after he shone for the Dutch national team at Euro 2024.

“He has it all, including mentality and character. He is an exceptionally good player,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said last month.

Simons, who has 20 caps for the Netherlands, scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists in 43 appearances for Leipzig last season. The club said he will wear the number 10 for the upcoming campaign.
