Giorgi Mamardashvili will be the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Liverpool

Liverpool have agreed to sign goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from LaLiga side Valencia, becoming the first incoming signing under new manager Arne Slot, the clubs confirmed on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old, who helped Georgia reach the last 16 during their first appearance at a major tournament at Euro 2024, will remain at Valencia until the end of this season before moving to Anfield next summer.

ESPN reported last week that Valencia and Liverpool were negotiating a fee of around 40 million euros ($44 million) for Mamardashvili, who joined the Spanish side in 2021.

Brazil international Alisson Becker and Republic of Ireland No.1 Caoimhín Kelleher remain Liverpool's first-choice goalkeepers, but Mamardashvili's move is seen as planning for the future when either Alisson or Kelleher leave the club.

Mamardashvili has started all but one of Valencia's LaLiga games over the last two seasons.

Slot has said he is happy with the strength of his current squad, but a deal with Mamardashvili marks the first major signing during his time in charge.

ESPN's Mark Ogden contributed to this report.
