To the editor: I remember having traveled on the old 99 highway (when it was still US 99) between Los Angeles and the Bay area in the early 1960s, before building the interstate 5. He passed through the center of Bakersfield (with the arched poster of “Bakersfield” above), Fresno, Modesto and other small cities. Then, remembering the old diners, do not forget the famous cafeteria de la Punta near Gorman, with their red and green neon lights along the roof eaves.
