To the editor: President Biden made the biggest sacrifice of his career. He did the right thing by withdrawing from the race. Now is the time for everyone who doesn't want former President Trump to take control of the White House to support the new Democratic presidential nominee, whoever that may be.
This election is not about who you like or dislike. It's not about whether the candidate is a man or a woman. It's not about the race of the candidate. It's not even about who is the best candidate for the job.
This is about stopping MAGA supporters from putting a criminal and dictator in power. This is about saving our country, our democracy, and our freedom. We must come together and make sure a sensible, trustworthy candidate wins the election.
For once, let's do the right thing.

To the editor: I was saddened to hear that Biden decided to end his re-election campaign. I can't say I understand how polls cause these changes in political possibilities.
I am concerned about both the president's personal health and the escalating media anxiety surrounding the debate and its effect on his candidacy. He has stepped forward to allay his party's concerns by resigning.
I never doubted that, with the excellent advisors Biden has surrounded himself with, he would have been able to lead our nation. My hope is that, by forgoing the nomination, he has assured himself of a longer life and a chance at peace.
Biden has served us all with strength and humility. I wish him and First Lady Jill Biden peace and fulfillment in their future lives.

To the editor: Many Republicans, spooked by Biden's patriotic and selfless decision to withdraw from the presidential race, are now calling for his immediate resignation, arguing that if he decides not to continue his campaign, he must be incapable of fulfilling the duties of his office.
Of course, this way of thinking is patently ridiculous and reveals a lot about those who hold it. Anyone who cannot tell the vast difference between running for president and being president has no idea of the qualities required for true leadership.

To the editor: “Biden is stepping down” certainly says it all. And as a former newspaper editor, I know how well it fits into this space.
But I wish he had left room to say, “Biden steps aside.”
He would have been kinder and more generous, and I think he has earned it by his long years of service, putting his country first.
