Sherrone Moore's impeachment in Michigan sparks reaction on social media

The last season of college football generated many heated debates and now scandals.

In recent days, much of the conversation has centered on the College Football Playoff Committee's selection for this year's 12-team playoffs. But debates on that topic quickly took a backseat when news broke that Michigan had fired head football coach Sherrone Moore.

The university said an investigation found there was sufficient evidence that Moore had an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” The announcement was a surprising end to Moore's short, packed tenure, in which the Wolverines took a step back from the field after winning the national championship and being punished by the NCAA.

“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” school officials said in a statement.

Moore was later booked into the Washtenaw County Jail while Pittsfield police conducted an assault investigation.

Moore's firing stunned much of the college football world.

Here's a look at how former college players, fans and other observers reacted to the shocking events.

Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones weighed in and suggested that the decision to remove Moore was a sign that Michigan was “finally” adhering to “some standards.”

Other social media users referenced Lane Kiffin, whose decision to move from Ole Miss to LSU sparked mixed, but nonetheless passionate, reactions across the sports landscape.

The Detroit Free Press reported that former LSU coach Brian Kelly is not expected to draw interest from Michigan during its coaching search.

The announcement did not include details of the alleged relationship. Moore, married with three young daughters, has not yet commented on his dismissal.

Moore, 39, went 9-3 this year after going 8-5 in his debut season.

He signed a five-year contract with an annual base salary of $5.5 million last year. Under the terms of his agreement, the university will not have to buy out the remaining years of Moore's contract because he was fired for cause.
