Northern California school principal takes leave after dancing to Ginuwine's 'Pony' with school mascot

You always expect some unrest at a high school protest, but instead of it coming from the students this time, it was the actions of an administrator that got them into trouble.

Principal Robert Nunes of Buhach Colony High School in Atwater has been placed on administrative leave after dancing with the school's mascot, “Thor,” at last Friday's demonstration, according to media reports.

A video of the incident posted on social media shows Nunes in an office chair in the school gymnasium as the school mascot dances near him and Ginuwine’s song “Pony” plays in the background.

The pet then sits on the chair and Nunes slides her hands down the pet's chest.

“What happens in Buhach stays in Buhach,” Nunes told the cheering crowd of students.

In a statement obtained by YourCentral Valley, the Merced Union High School District says it will “conduct a thorough review of the situation.”

Nunes will not participate in any school-related activities or assume any school-related responsibilities during the investigation, school officials said. In the meantime, Executive Principal Torrin Johnson and Assistant Principal David Rogers will serve as interim principals at Buhach Colony High School.

The Merced Union High School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
