A famous ski resort largely survived the bridge fire

As the Bridge Fire raged through mountain communities Tuesday night, the Mountain High webcam showed a dramatic scene: flames tearing through the ski lifts at the popular ski resort.

The images did not bode well for Mountain High, but as the night progressed, the fate of the resort remained a mystery.

As dawn broke, it became clear that the complex had largely survived the fire.

“The fire spread through the area yesterday, but all elevators and main buildings survived with little to no damage,” according to a Mountain High post. “Thank you to all employees and firefighters for their hard work. Our hearts go out to the Wrightwood families who may be suffering. We are with you!”

Some homes were burned in nearby Wrightwood, but exact numbers were not available Wednesday morning.

Located about 75 miles northeast of Los Angeles, Mountain High has three mountains for skiers and snowboarders, an ice rink for skaters and Yeti's Snowplay, which includes tubing and sledding for the little ones.

The Bridge Fire broke out Sunday in the Angeles National Forest, and flames spread rapidly Tuesday in the northeast area, forest officials said.

Between Tuesday and early Wednesday morning, the fire grew from 4,000 acres to 47,904 acres, growing more than 10 times in size.
