Whoopi Goldberg tried an unlikely delicacy in a fit of exhaustion and extreme hunger.
Maybe it was the long flight she had just taken or the fact that she hadn't eaten much, but somehow, the 68-year-old ended up devouring a bag of Temptations cat treats last week.
In the recent episode of The view, Goldberg confessed to her co-hosts (Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro) that she had thought cat biscuits were pretzels. She noted that she had just returned from a long flight after meeting Pope Francis.
“I came home. Maybe I was a little more jet-lagged than I thought,” the comedian explained during the June 17 episode. “I wasn't high. I didn't drink anything.”
She continued, “It's two in the morning and there are some wonderful pretzels called Dot's Pretzels, which I love.”
Goldberg went to grab a couple handfuls of the beloved twists, but her daughter, Alex Martin, left the Temptations treats directly next to the bag of Dot's Pretzels. Without thinking, he Ghost Star took the snack and picked up the bag of cat food.
“So I walk over and pour some Dot's in my hand and pop them in my mouth. “I’m chewing,” Goldberg explained. In his mouth, the taste was rancid.
Hostin was curious if Goldberg thought Dot's Pretzels were a bag of new flavor. But the actor confessed that that was not the case. She thought the problem was her, not the pretzels.
“No, no. I just poured a little bit more because maybe I thought, you know, bed mouth. You know, because sometimes you wake up and you have something in your mouth and you're like, 'Who is it?'” he said.
Goldberg added: “So I serve a little more. 'Why do they taste so bad?' My eye finally opened a little and in my hand was the Crab flavored Temptations!
Temptations Crabby Crab snack consists of small bites of chicken by-product meal, ground corn, animal fat, dried yeast, dried cheese, natural crab flavor and more. Goldberg is the owner of her cat, Oliver.
To further emphasize how tired she was, Goldberg confessed that the flight from the Vatican was long, especially after being in a room with Pope Francis and 100 other comedians on June 14.
Although the TV star didn't have the same anxiety she might have had when she met Pope Francis for the first time in 2023, the whirlwind experience was just as exhausting.
Goldberg spoke about his first meeting with Pope Francis in a conversation with Jimmy Fallon during his late-night talk show of the same name.
“I went to see him and he actually seems to be a big fan,” he told Fallon, noting that this wasn't a big surprise considering his work on Sisters Law.
