On the 108th birth anniversary of MS Subbulakshmi, Vidya Balan paid tribute to the late singer.

Bharat Ratna awardee late MS Subbulakshmi would have celebrated her 108th birthday yesterday. Her fans took to social media to remember her and her legacy on this occasion. Actress Vidya Balan was among the many people who remembered the late singer on her birth anniversary. The actress paid a tribute to the singer on her birthday and shared a series of pictures.

Taking to her Instagram account, Vidya Balan dressed up as MS Subbulakshmi to pay tribute to the late singer. She shared a video in which she sported four sarees that the singer wore during the 60s and 80s. She penned a long note and wrote, “This is a humble tribute from @anuparthasarathy and myself to the legend MSSubbulakshmi, the original style icon, who carried off with great aplomb, a look that was a study in simplicity, adding to the charm of her mellifluous voice. This article showcases four sarees that MSAmma wore and popularised between the 60s and 80s and is a portrait of MSAmma’s concert persona.”

The first look featured a purple and orange Kanjeevaram saree. The second look featured a blue and red Kanjeevaram saree. The third look featured a blue and yellow saree and the last look featured a blue saree with golden border detailing. The actress paid homage to the singer by wearing the sarees and completed the look with the traditional Kumkum and vibhuti on her forehead. She also wore two nose pins on either side of her nose just like the singer. Her hair was tied in a bun and was adorned with jasmine flowers.

The series was a tribute to costume designer Anu Parthasarthy, who hired Balan after she expressed her desire to play MS Subbulakshmi.
