As winter approaches, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere indoors becomes essential as you will likely be spending more time at home.
Cozy interiors, beautiful, bright colors and a hot cup of tea – winter is here. As the winter season approaches, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere indoors becomes essential after all, the most time you would spend at home between your duvets and glued to the heater, haha! Not literally! You've never taken the risk of creating charming and cozy homes, this is your cue to immerse yourself in the art of cozy this winter.
Arkansas. Parul Agarwal VK, Design Director, FOAID Designs, says, “Firstly, layering textures is the key. Introducing a mix of soft fabrics such as thick wool throws, velvet cushions and faux fur throws brings warmth and a touch of luxury to any space. Opt for rich, deep tones like burgundy, forest green, and midnight blue to create an intimate, grounded atmosphere while bringing holiday cheer to the space.”
Layering over sofas, chairs, and beds instantly adds warmth and visual interest, transforming the space into a comfortable refuge from the cold outside.
Krish Kothari, CEO and Lead Designer, KKD STUDIO, adds, “Start with a neutral base and then build on it with various textures and colors to give it depth and warmth. Think plush blankets, fluffy pillows and soft rugs in rich materials like wool, cashmere and velvet to enhance the tactile experience. Take advantage of natural light, even on the shortest winter days, by strategically placing mirrors to reflect light and illuminate the room. Sheer curtains allow soft sunlight to filter in, while darker, heavier curtains create an intimate nook for reading or relaxing whenever you want.
Lightning
Next, consider lighting, an essential but often overlooked element of winter decorating. “Soft ambient lighting can completely alter the ambiance of a room. Swap out bright overhead lights for warm-toned fixtures and incorporate antique table lamps, floor lamps, and string lights to create a softer, more inviting glow. Candlelight is another winter staple; Placing candles or tealights strategically around the room adds cozy charm, making your space feel intimate and calm. Scented candles with warm, woody scents like mahogany, cinnamon and vanilla not only enhance the décor but also add to the seasonal feel,” suggests Agarwal.
A perfect fireplace
A fireplace can be the ultimate focal point for cozy gatherings. “Whether traditional wood-burning or modern gas or electric, it instantly warms the space, adding charm and comfort. Arrange comfortable seating, soft lighting, and a thoughtful selection of books or magazines around you for the perfect fireside experience,” shares Kothari.
The texture further enhances comfort by adding dimension; Incorporate woven baskets, woven blankets, and textured wall coverings that create a warm, layered feel.
Finally, embrace the winter season with thoughtful decorative details. “Classic, plush coffee table books, plaid blankets, and ceramic mugs ready for hot chocolate add a personal touch that makes the home truly feel like a retreat. Carefully incorporating these elements will help create a complete and welcoming space for the season,” summarizes Kothari.
