Strictly's Amy Dowden accepts MBE on behalf of all those living with Crohn's disease


Strictly come dance Favorite Amy Dowden has agreed to be appointed MBE for her services to Crohn's disease “on behalf” of those living with the incurable inflammatory bowel disease.

As an advocate and ambassador for the charity Crohn's & Colitis UK, she has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King's Birthday Honors for her services to raising funds and awareness of the disease.

The Caerphilly dancer told the PA news agency: “I'm still in shock but I'm so excited to be a Member of the Order of the British Empire it's beyond my wildest dreams.

“I accept this on behalf of all those living with Crohn's disease and will continue to campaign to raise awareness and research about this terrible chronic disease.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful NHS staff who have helped me over the years and Crohn's & Colitis UK who do so much to help other patients.”

Dowden, who was too ill to compete on the show last season while undergoing treatment for stage three breast cancer, celebrated the news following the BBC's official announcement and told her Instagram followers that she cannot wait to get back to doing what he loves most: dancing. .

She first found a lump in her breast the day before going to the Maldives on her honeymoon with fellow professional dancer Ben Jones and was subsequently diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. He recently finished chemotherapy and tests show that he has “no evidence of disease.”

He had previously suffered an outbreak in November 2021, shortly after filming Strictly come dancewhen she briefly moved in with her famous partner, McFly star Tom Fletcher, and his wife Giovanna, while her husband was away.

The NHS describes Crohn's disease as a lifelong condition in which parts of the digestive system become inflamed. People who suffer from the disease usually experience phases of severe abdominal pain, severe vomiting, exhaustion and bloody diarrhea, among other symptoms.
