Seth Rogen's comments about not having children have resurfaced and sparked debate online.
The actor went viral again for old comments he made in the Diary of a CEO podcast about he and his wife Lauren Miller's decision not to have children. Last year, he spoke at length about how satisfied they are without children, adding that it's part of the reason his career has been so successful.
At the time, Seth told host Steven Bartlett, “There's one very important thing I'm not doing, which is raising children.”
When asked if having children would make them “happier,” Seth was quick to tell her why that wouldn't be the case.
“Obviously I have been with many children, I am not ignorant of what it is like. …Everyone I know has children. I'm 40, you know? I know,” she explained. “Some of my friends have had children for decades. “Some people want to have children, some people don’t want to have children.”
“Honestly, from what I've seen, a lot of people have kids before they even think about it,” Rogen added. “They just tell you, 'You go through life, you get married, you have kids' — that's what happens.”
“My wife and I, neither of us were like that,” he continued. “Honestly, the older we get, the happier and more affirmed we are with our decision not to have children. It was something we talked about more and thought, 'Have we made the right decision? We are sure?'”
“Now, more than anything, the conversation is like, 'Honestly, thank God we don't have kids,'” Seth admitted. “We can do whatever we want”.
He added that they can enjoy their childless lifestyle mainly because they both feel that they are in the prime of their lives, without financial or existential burdens.
“We are in the prime of life. We are smarter than ever. We understand ourselves more than ever.
“We have the ability to achieve a level of work and a level of communication and care for each other, and a lifestyle that we can live with each other that we've never been able to live before, and we can just do it and “I don't have to raise a child.” , something the world doesn't need right now.”
A user on They wrote“I wouldn't trade Saturday mornings with my kids for anything.”
Many agreed with the user and said they couldn't imagine life without their children.
“That's the kind of thing you say publicly because you think it sounds cool,” one person said. commented. “Whereas privately, when you get older, it eats away at your soul.”
“A simple 'we're selfish narcissists' would have sufficed,” another person said. aggregatewhile another wrote: “Sad, they will wake up at 50 and realize that their life has no meaning.”
Some people, however, defended Rogen.
“I love that people want to spend their mornings with the children they love and chose to have,” someone said. commented. “I also love that people who don't want to have children can have the mornings they choose. Because that man who smokes and enjoys his love is not about you and your children. Go and be happy. He is!”
“Why can't we just be happy that everyone has the freedom to do whatever they want?” one more asked.
