Sandra Bullock honored her late partner, photographer Bryan Randall, by scattering his ashes in the Snake River in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Gesine Bullock-Prado, the 59-year-old actor’s sister, shared on Instagram on December 30, 2023 that Bullock released Randall’s ashes under a video of the sunny landscape. She captioned the video and wrote, “Happy birthday Bry. Sandy brought you to the river, just like she promised.
In August, Randall’s family confirmed Entertainment tonight that the former model turned photographer died after a private three-year battle with ALS.
“It is with great sadness that we share that on August 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” his family told the outlet. “Bryan decided from the beginning to keep his journey with ALS private, and those of us who care for him did everything we could to honor his request.”
They continued: “We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this disease with us and to the amazing nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours.”
“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and accept the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan,” they concluded and signed. “His loving family of his.” After news of his death was announced, the actor’s sister took to Instagram to honor Randall with a photo of him, writing that his sister was one of his best “caretakers.”
Bullock and Randall first met in January 2015, when he photographed the birthday of their now 13-year-old son Louis. The couple made their first public appearance that same year at the wedding of Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux. It is notable that the couple kept their relationship private.
In late 2021, the actress addressed her relationship in an appearance on Red table talk, calling his partner “holy.” At the time, Bullock responded to a fan’s question about whether or not they should remarry, since they were divorced but also wanted to have children with her new partner.
“I found the love of my life,” she told the hosts, including Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “We share two beautiful children, three sons… [Randall’s] eldest daughter. “The best thing in the world.” She added that her priority was being a good mother to her children, Louis, and a daughter named Laila, 11.
“I don’t want to say do it like I do it, but I don’t need a role to be a devoted partner, a devoted mother. “I don’t need to be told to always be present in the most difficult moments,” she continued. “I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.”
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, usually affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Its Greek name refers to the deterioration of the muscles responsible for controlling voluntary movement caused by lack of nutrition, caused by a genetic mutation. As of now, there is no cure for ALS; However, the US Food and Drug Administration (USDA) has approved four medications to treat the symptoms of the condition: Riluzole, Nuedexta, Radicava, and Tiglutik.
