Ordering fajitas for a birthday dinner could be another mistake to avoid.
Recently, a TikTok user with the name @_cest_la_vie_._ posted a video on the platform recorded at her birthday dinner, when her boyfriend ordered fajitas. “My boyfriend ordered fajitas at MY birthday dinner,” the text on the screen reads as her partner receives a sizzling cast iron skillet with meat and vegetables.
Everyone around the table is fascinated by the dish, raving about how delicious the food looks as they ask the man's boyfriend what exactly he ordered. “Cheers to Blake!” one person can be heard saying in the background as another tells him, “You won the night!”
Throughout the interactions, the birthday boy is seen glaring angrily at his boyfriend. “ON MY BIRTHDAY? Go ahead, the spotlight is on you ig,” he wrote in the caption of the video.
The TikTok has received over 12 million views and many in the comments section claim they would be just as upset as the TikToker in the same situation.
“‘You won the night’ would have made me lose control. The whole table flipped over!” wrote one commenter. Another agreed, writing: “I really hope they started an argument in the parking lot after that little joke he made, ughhhh.”
“Because why would you order that on my birthday, at my birthday dinner, when it’s my birthday party?” wrote a third commenter, while a fourth noted: “The fajitas steal all the attention!”
“My sister announced she was engaged to my brother-in-law AT MY WEDDING. But she wouldn’t even order the sizzling fajitas on my birthday!” another commenter joked.
However, other commenters thought the birthday person was exaggerating and that ordering fajitas was not a problem.
“Am I the only person who wouldn’t get upset if someone asked for whatever they wanted to eat no matter the occasion? I don’t get it. Am I old?” wrote one user.
“I don’t understand why everyone hates this guy? He just wanted fajitas lol,” another added.
This isn’t the first debate to arise over the topic of birthday dinners. Earlier this year, in another viral TikTok video, a man shared an experience he had to illustrate why he thinks expensive birthday dinners are “unfair.”
He said he recently skipped a friend’s birthday dinner because the cheapest entree on the menu was $41. “The reason I decided not to go was because the plan was to have dinner and then go out, and the place he picked to go out already had a $35 entree and I’m kind of broke, so I thought, I’ll skip dinner and then go out,” he said in his video.
The video sparked a debate over whether or not the birthday person should foot the entire bill for dinner if they choose the restaurant.
“Wait… I’m assuming dinner is on the host’s account, right? I’ve never been to a birthday dinner where I had to pay for my own food,” one person wrote in the comments at the time.
“Isn't it common courtesy to pay for your guests' admission if you're having a birthday dinner?” asked another commenter.
Other commentators thought she had done the right thing by choosing to attend only part of the birthday celebration.
“You did the right thing. Not everyone has unlimited money to spend like your friend,” one comment read.
