A catwalk of stories was revealed in the most beautiful tapestry called Sustainable Fashion Day. The second day of Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI went beyond the fashion narrative and created a mix of memorable memories through innovative storytelling.
The contemporary silhouettes embraced craftsmanship culturally rooted in a history of color and emotions. Each collection that appeared on the runway created a collage of sustainable stories crafted with love.
Starting the day on a sustainable note, brands Inca, Til and Yavi showcased their respective collections: Love is a Verb, RAY and Recondite Freedom. Each of the designers showcased their craft through a variety of textiles, colors and patterns, each collection representing what they stood for as designers. Inca's vibrant two-tone shades, Til's art-meets-fashion blend and Yavi's glorious print, each silhouette blends majestically with the designer's commitment to sustainability.
Another highlight of the Yavi exhibition was when designer Yadvi Agarwal's father opened the exhibition. According to Yadvi, his father has been a great support in his journey and it seemed right to have him by his side on this big day.
Gaurang Shah, a visionary of the textile world, colored the craft canvases with Gulaal. In an enchanting evening of music and dance, the world of Gaurang came to life through 43 ensembles featuring captivating sarees and lehengas. In beautiful shades of pink enhanced with intricate embroidery, each craft chosen by Gaurang was celebrated and highlighted through his muses, including Nayanika Chatterjee, Alesia Raut and Carol Gracias, among others. The cinematic experience of Gaurang's collection came to life with a soulful performance by singer Hardik Chauhan, who performed live at the exhibition.
Fashion is an emotion that creates memories as it goes. After the traditionally rich and mystical Gaurang showcase, it was time to play and have fun with the creative Chola collaboration of Sohaya Misra x Tea Culture of the World. From timeless blacks and whites to dynamic shades of matcha, mustard, orange and blue, the collection was a big tea party we didn't know we needed.
The voice of fashion was loud and clear on Sustainable Fashion Day, when Urvashi Kaur's 15th birthday was celebrated through a spectacular exhibition titled Voices of Urvashi Kaur. As striking as her muses, which included Ratna Pathak Shah, Tillotama Shome, Rasika Dugal, Mallika Dua, Faraz Ansani, Shweta Tripathi, Santanu Hazarika and her mother, Anupama Singh, Urvashi's showcase featured an amalgamation of silhouettes celebrating dominance of Urvashi's sustainability. design. Archival textiles met Urvashi's latest collection, Pra na, an extension of an ongoing Renew project.
As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. It's about time we celebrate Sustainable Fashion Day every day. Burdened by the weight of our waste, we suffocate under the rubble of our own creation. A thought-provoking message showcased in the creative presentation of Without, the R|Elan winner presents the Circular Design Challenge in association with the United Nations in India.
A vision by Anish Malpani, Without redefines the essence of transformation, where the brand recycles plastic waste such as crisp packets and turns it into high-end fashion accessories such as sunglasses and earrings. The unique presentation was attended by crucial members of his team. The 'Team Sin Optimizers' were former recyclers, who now know how to use injection molding machines, extruders and lens cutters and work alongside engineers and scientists.
Be Kind, Rewind, perfectly describes JJ Valaya x R|Elan's JJV Kapurthala and Akaaro's performances.
Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta featured unused and waste yarns that she revisited to create her innovative and versatile Moonrise collection.
The magic of R|Elan fabrics, made from recycled PET bottles, became a spectacular hit in JJV Kapurthala's collection titled Char. The bridge to luxury line explored sustainable fabrics and transformed them into contemporary silhouettes with JJ Valaya's signature “changing leaf chevron” prints.
Known for its creative displays where style and music take center stage, the fashion show was enhanced with a mesmerizing performance by singer Bhuwin.
Sustainable collections mixed with entertaining displays, Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI was all about making a difference one stitch at a time.
