Holland Taylor has revealed why she and longtime girlfriend Sarah Paulson have no plans to tie the knot.

The 81-year-old actress spoke candidly about her relationship with Paulson, whom she has been dating since 2015, during an appearance on Andy Cohen's SiriusXM show.Radio Andy on August 8. When Cohen asked Taylor if she and her partner were planning to get married, she admitted she didn't think so.

“We have never talked about it with any interest,” he said. “It doesn’t seem to mean the same thing to us as it does to a lot of people.”

However, she clarified that she and the American Horror Story The star would “definitely” get married “if she wanted to.”

After Cohen gushed about the famous couple, the Two and a half men The student went on to describe why she and Paulson, 49, are such good mates.

“We have a wonderful resonance. We are very interested in the same things, and yet we share big differences,” she said. “We have a big generation gap, which worries me about her.”

However, Taylor acknowledged that the generational gap in their relationship is not necessarily a problem. In fact, she has been able to support Paulson in recent moments of her life.

“A lot of the things that she’s going through that are emotionally very important to her right now, I went through 30 or 40 years ago,” he explained. “And she brings them back to me and I think, ‘Of course this is hard,’ or ‘Of course, that’s great. Of course, that’s important to her.’”

She went on to celebrate Paulson winning a Tony Award last June for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play, which recognized her work in Appropriate on Broadway. “It was so exciting to see that joy,” Taylor added.

Paulson had previously spoken openly about the dynamics of her relationship with Taylor. During an episode of the series Less intelligent In a May podcast, Paulson shared that while she and her partner “spend a lot of time together,” they don’t actually “live in the same house.”

“We’ve been together for a long time and I think part of it is that we’re together when we want to be and not when we don’t want to be,” Paulson added.

Asked if she and Taylor would consider having separate bedrooms, rather than living in different houses, Paulson clarified that they still often share a bed, noting that they “sleep holding hands.”

“I like sleeping next to her. I don't want to be near her the rest of the time,” she joked about the fact that she and Taylor have their own space, before adding, “Just kidding.”

She also talked about their different experiences in previous dating, explaining that Taylor had never been in “a long-term relationship” before Paulson. However, that wasn't the case for Paulson, as she said that before dating Taylor, she had been in two previous relationships that lasted more than five years.

“And that was her life, and getting to her age and not having lived with anyone for a long time,” he explained. “I think it was very hard for her to suddenly have me, with all my need, in her space.”

Paulson and Taylor knew each other long before they started dating. While appearing on The view Last November, she revealed that she and Taylor had gone out to dinner with actress Allison Janney and the late screenwriter Buck Henry 10 years before they started dating. At the time, Henry snapped a photo of the three actors atop a Lamborghini parked outside the restaurant and sent everyone copies of the photo.

“It sat in the refrigerator in my little apartment in West Hollywood for 10 years,” Paulson said. “There it was, in my kitchen.”

When asked by TV host Joy Behar if she was in love with Taylor at the time, Paulson acknowledged that she was not, but admitted that “maybe something was brewing and I didn't know about it.”
