Hoda Kotb has shared a rare comment about her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman, whom she dated for almost 10 years.
The 59-year-old talk show host shared her candid thoughts on dating during an episode of her show.Today with Hoda and Jenna, which aired on March 21. During her conversation with co-host Jenner Bush Hager, Kotb describes the importance of respect in a relationship, before mentioning her ex and how sweet she would be while they were together.
“I've only been with people who are very polite,” he said. “For example, when I get up from the table, Joel gets up every time, every time, even if it's a normal dinner.”
Bush Hager also pointed out that Kotb may have seen this type of behavior in his parents' relationship. In response, Ella Kotb agreed and acknowledged that she “expects” her partner to treat her the same way her father treated her mother.
“Yes, it's what you deserve, what you feel: 'Oh yes, I deserve it.' But I think it also shows, when your kids look at, 'Oh, this is how two people treat each other.' Not like, 'Bring me this,'” she said.
When talking about how couples often wear each other's clothes, later in the episode, Kotb once again mentioned a moment with his ex when she accidentally wore his shoes.
“The only thing I did was Joel and I had the exact same pairs of sneakers, except in different sizes. I figured, and when I put the shoe on him and it fit, he said, 'Where are my shoes?' I say, 'I don't know,' he says, 'They were right here!'” he recalled during the episode, as reported.Page six.
Kotb then described how she felt when she realized Schiffman's shoes fit her, adding, “I said, 'Those are your sneakers?!' He says, 'Yes,' and I said, 'Oh my God, that's sad!'”
In January 2022, Kotb first announced that she and Schiffmam had broken up after eight years together. “Joel and I have had a lot of really meaningful, prayerful conversations over the holidays, and we decided that we are better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple,” she told Bush Hager in her segment. Today with Hoda and Jenna.
“So we decided to start this new year and start our new journey as loving parents of our adorable and lovely children and as friends,” Kotb added.
Kotb and Schiffman had been together since 2013, before getting engaged in November 2019. The former couple share two adopted daughters, Haley, six, and Hope, four.
During the 2022 episode of TodayKotb noted that there wasn't necessarily a specific reason for the split. “It's not like anything happened,” he added. “They say that sometimes relationships must exist for a reason, a season or a lifetime. And I feel like ours was meant to be there for a season.”
The TV host has since shared her feelings about re-entering the dating scene. During an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show Earlier this month, she revealed that she had recently gone on her first date in two years.
Days later, she told him Entertainment tonight that he met the person he had that date with through Bush Hager. He also revealed that he had plans to go on a third date with this person.
“I had a great time… I had a great time on our date. I loved her,” she explained. “There has already been a second. Hey, here's how it works… We'll have the third one coming soon. “It's really fun.”
