Heather Locklear has revealed why she and Tom Cruise never made it past the first date.
The 62-year-old actor, best known for playing Amanda Woodward in Melrose Placeshared the story about meeting Cruise in the 1980s during a panel at 90s Con in Florida on Saturday, September 14. Addressing the crowd, he explained that he was first introduced to the The best gun star when they were auditioning.
“We both auditioned for the movie together, the two of us, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m terrible,’” he was quoted as saying. People During the event, before joking, “It's even worse!”
Locklear claimed that Cruise's behavior at the time made him look younger than her, even though they were roughly the same age. She also revealed that after the audition, she dated him and another future star.
“He was like a baby that made me feel a little bit older and he ended up coming to my house with Sean Penn,” she added. “And they were very nice, but he was like, ‘Yes, ma’am,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, sir.’”
Locklear described herself as a “rock and roll girl” in the 1980s, which she considered a style that did not fit Cruise. However, she did share that after their first meeting, they went on their first and only date.
“He wasn’t up to par,” she explained. “We went out dancing at the Lingerie Club at the time and, as I said before, he was very cute.”
She also revealed that on the outing, one of her dance moves was from her hit movie, Risky businessIn the 1983 film, there is a scene where Cruise's character dances around his living room while wearing only socks and a shirt and sliding down to his knees.
“In fact, I had already done it before. [the movie]“And I was dancing and I was like, ‘Do you stop dancing if they’re down there?’” she said. “I was like, ‘Yay!’ But he was really nice to me.”
In 1986, Locklear married musician Tommy Lee, before separating in 1993. She married singer Richie Sambora in 1994 and they welcomed their daughter, Ava, in 1997. Locklear and Sambora officially divorced in 2007.
Locklear has since been engaged to her former high school boyfriend, Jack Heisser, with whom she reconnected in 2016. The couple got engaged in 2020; however, the actress has previously expressed that she is in no rush to tie the knot.
“I say, 'You're my man for the rest of my life, whether we get married or not,'” she told him. People in 2021. “Her daughter says, ‘When are you getting married?’ And I say, ‘Can we get through the movie? Can we get through the pandemic? Can we get through the pandemic?’” [all of that]?'”
He added: “[A wedding] It's not that important. We're together, we love each other and we support each other. And really that's all that matters.”
