Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish have confirmed rumors that they sent their cook to Italy to learn how to make risotto.
The “Tiny Dancer” singer, 57, was forced to make lifestyle changes after a series of health problems, including a serious eye infection and the removal of his prostate, appendix and tonsils.
He admitted that he could no longer eat sugary sweets, despite his sweet tooth.
In a discussion about her passion for food with her husband for Ruthie's table On the podcast, she shared the lengths the couple had gone to satisfy their cravings.
When asked about the news that the couple had sent their cook abroad to learn the Italian dish, Furnish replied: “That's true, yes, we did.”
He explained that the couple had been inspired by an extravagant dinner at Gianni Versace's house.
“Well, that was in the '90s, when Gianni Versace was a big part of our lives,” Furnish explained. “We went to Gianni's house in Milan, in a beautiful apartment.
“The meals were theater, that's the only way I can describe it because I had butlers dressed in white with white gloves. [and] white jackets
“You sat down and there was a beautiful piece of antique china and then, wham, it was taken away and then a plate with a starter fell out, and then, wham!, it was taken away and another plate of antique china came down to be removed for the major”.
But the risotto of the opulent dinner stayed with the couple.
“And the risotto at Gianni's, that was…” Furnish began.
“It was like nectar,” Sir Elton interjected. “It was so delicious. Also, as David said, the presentation was a great help, because he made me collect tableware, china and tablecloths, it was his fault.”
He added, “Absolutely, yes,” when asked if the cook's effort to learn how to make risotto was successful.
The musician also revealed what he hates above all else: “I hate people who are rude to wait staff, and I know a lot of people in my business who are and talk down to them. That's what I hate the most.”
