According to Pandit Sharma, performing a precise ritual at the midnight of Maha Shivaratri can supposedly address several challenges in life. The ritual involves plucking a datura flower and visiting a nearby Shiva temple just before midnight. At the stroke of midnight, devotees offer the Datura flower to Lord Shiva at the Shivling within the temple premises. The flower is left on the Shivling for half an hour, while the devotees chant the sacred mantra, “Shree Shivay Namastubhyam”.
After the half-hour chanting session, the devotees retrieve the Shivling flower at 12:30 am and take it home. The Datura flower is then wrapped in a red cloth and placed at a chosen place such as home, office, studio or farm at 4:00 a.m. This act of devotion is believed to please Lord Shiva. and invites success and prosperity into life.
