Bollywood singer Armaan Malik talks about his latest projects, including his collaboration with Calum Scott and his feature on Amazon Music’s Desi Vibes playlist for Prime Day. Armaan also talks about his relationship with social media influencer Aashna Shroff and his musical journey.
Excerpts from the interview:
You recently worked with Calum Scott. How was the experience? Can you share any interesting anecdotes from that collaboration?
Working with Calum Scott was an incredible experience. Not only is he a great artist, but he’s also a fantastic human being. We met in the UK during a writing trip and instantly connected due to our mutual love of heartfelt music. In our first session, we created “Always.” The process felt effortless and natural. It was crazy to see how our voices blended so well with each other, which made the collaboration even more special. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved with “Always” and I look forward to doing many more collaborations like this in the near future.
Let's talk a little bit about that wonderful collaboration with Ed Sheeran. How did this partnership come about and what was the whole experience like?
Collaborating with Ed Sheeran was a long-held dream of mine. It all started when his team got in touch with Warner Music India. They wanted an Indian artist to work on the hit song and when I heard about the opportunity, I immediately said yes. I had a blast working on the song and thoroughly enjoyed the creative freedom his team gave me to write my own lyrics. It is definitely an experience I will remember forever.
Your musical style spans several genres. Do you have a favorite genre to play and if so, why do you find it appealing?
Although I enjoy experimenting with different genres, pop music holds a special place in my heart. There’s something about the energy it conveys and how it connects with so many people that excites me. It allows me to connect with a wider audience and express myself in a vibrant and dynamic way. Pop music is versatile, meaning it can encompass a wide range of styles, themes, and emotions. This flexibility allows me to explore different feelings and ideas in my songs, which is why I love performing pop music. It’s fun, engaging, and brings people together, making every performance a memorable experience.
You have sung in several languages and have a wide variety of hit songs. Which of your songs do you consider your biggest hit and what makes them special to you?
For me, songs like “Pehla Pyaar,” “Kasam Se,” and my debut English single “Control” hold deep meaning. Winning the MTV EMA for “Control” and “You” was a surreal achievement and I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me. Collaborating with Ed Sheeran on “2 Step” was a dream come true, enriching my musical journey beyond my expectations. Each of these songs holds a special place for me because of their emotional depth and the overwhelming love they received from fans around the world.
You have collaborated with many renowned artists. Can you tell us about your favorite collaboration so far and what made it unique?
Collaborating with Ed Sheeran was a milestone for me. I'm grateful for that opportunity. Working with Eric Nam and KSHMR was also amazing. Eric's voice and style really brought something new to our song. And KSHMR's production skills added a lot of energy to our collaborations. These experiences have really inspired me to continue exploring new sounds and styles in my musical journey.
What was your experience working on Amazon Music’s Artist Diaries?
It's always a great time filming with Amazon Music. This time, I filmed a longer piece of content called the Amazon Music Artist Diaries series and it really was an amazing experience. Thanks to the team for inviting me to this!
Congratulations on your engagement! How are you balancing your wedding preparations with your busy schedule?
Thank you! It’s definitely not easy to balance personal and professional commitments, especially when you have a wedding to plan, but both Aashna and I work well together and try to strike the right balance. I’m thankful for all the support we received from our families and teams to help us keep everything moving forward! All stress aside, we’re so excited for the big day!
How did this partnership with Amazon Music and the Desi Vibes initiative come about?
My relationship with Amazon is long-standing and the team has always been supportive of my shoots. This collaboration with them was just another step towards strengthening our partnership and I am extremely happy to be a part of the Desi Vibes initiative. It was an extremely fun time shooting with the team!

Finally, what is in store for Armaan fans this year? What can they expect?
I recently launched my merch brand, “intheAM,” where you can find cool apparel and exclusive products that reflect my journey and style. It’s a way for me to connect with my fans on a deeper level, beyond the music. It’s always exciting to interact with them and see them flaunt my merch with such enthusiasm.
