Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour resumed its international leg in Australia over the weekend, but American Swifties, aka fans of the “Shake It Off” singer, are apparently confused by the concert location .
The Grammy winner performed three consecutive concerts at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from February 16 to 18. The stadium made history by hosting the largest Eras Tour concert to date, with 96,000 fans celebrating in a single night.
In a video shared by the official Visit Melbourne TikTok account, fans were given a bird's eye view of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. “I'm losing my mind over the fact that there are 96,000 people here tonight,” Swift was heard saying over the stadium speakers. “It's because it's true. “This is the biggest show we’ve done on this tour or any tour I’ve ever done.”
“So, yeah, that's the version you're going to get from me tonight,” he continued. “The version that is completely amazed by the fact that so many of you wanted to hang out with us on a Friday night in Melbourne.”
While the video offered a stunning aerial view of the East Melbourne stadium, which seats more than 100,000 people, the comments section seemed baffled by the lack of parking surrounding the venue.
“As an American, it's amazing to see such a large stadium without being surrounded by endless parking lots,” one TikToker commented.
“What bothers me is that there are no parking lots full of cars near that stadium,” said another.
“Am I the only one who thinks where the parking is?” a third user asked.
Many people took the opportunity to inform Americans that the Melbourne Cricket Ground is accessible via the Jolimont and Richmond train stations, as well as several tram stops.
“I was wondering where the car park was but then I realized there was a track right next to the stadium,” said one person, while another noted: “The trains and trams run efficiently and very close to the MCG. Everything works perfectly. Although there are also between 20 and 30 parking spaces available.”
Another TikTok user noted that “there is parking under the stadium” but it is “much easier” to visit Melbourne Cricket Ground by public transport. “If this were the United States, the stadium would be surrounded by an asphalt desert with parking lots,” another person wrote.
Following Swift's back-to-back shows in Melbourne, she took to Instagram to thank the thousands of fans who came to see her perform. “Melbourne, what do I say after more than 288,000 of you came and danced with us over the last three nights? Swift captioned her post. “That was unforgettable. You were on another LEVEL. Thanks for the memories. I'll check back on this weekend's often.”
Sydney is the next stop on the “Anti-Hero” singer’s Australian tour, where she will perform a series of four shows at Accor Stadium starting on February 23.
