5 Summer Makeup Trends You'll Want to Try

With summer just around the corner, revamp your usual beauty routine with these new makeup trends, which will be popular this season.

Celebrities are already hitting red carpets with on-trend pink babydoll cheeks and bold neon eyeliner, and beauty experts are on hand to show us how we can try out the new looks at home.

These are the summer makeup trends you'll want to try for yourself…

1. Bold Neon Eyes

The main trend for this summer is neon, so don't be afraid to be daring with your looks using neon eyeliner and eyeshadow.

They're the ideal look for this season, says Rachael Divers, Face The Future's resident makeup artist.

She suggests using brightly colored eyeliners or eyeshadows to create a bold winged liner or a bold wash of color on the lids.

2. Wet look

Beauty lovers are opting for a fresh, dewy aesthetic and “glass” or “dewy” skin will be everywhere by summer 2024, says beauty expert Hayley Walker, makeup artist at Justmylook.

“This look can be achieved using cream, liquid and gloss formulas that create a dewy shine. To enhance the look, moisturize and hydrate during your skincare routine before applying makeup for a smooth canvas,” she says.

“A hydrating mask or creams with hyaluronic acid work perfectly for this. As part of your makeup routine for a dewy skin look, opt for a lightweight, serum foundation that delivers a boost of moisture and a soft, natural-looking finish. A liquid highlighter is useful here, as it enhances a luminous, dewy finish.”

The look aims to create a glowing and luminous complexion, leaving you looking dewy and glassy.

3. Kissed by the sun

The sun-kissed look with minimal makeup is a summer must-have, with many opting for a natural tanned finish.

Moisturizing and applying SPF are essential to creating a smooth, fresh look, and Walker advises opting for a lightweight serum foundation to ensure a natural-looking base, avoiding full-coverage matte-based products.

“Tinted moisturizers work well for this minimalist tan finish look. Apply cream blush to enhance the natural no-makeup look, mimicking sun-kissed cheeks. Opt for lip gloss or balm instead of lipstick and finish the look with a hydrating setting spray.”

4. Smokey eyes

Grunge is back for summer and you can make a statement with a bold look by adding dark eyeshadow to your makeup routine.

Divers shares that “lived eyeliner” is gaining popularity, with smudged and smoky eyeliners adding an effortless touch to any makeup look.

Walker tells us how to achieve the aesthetic by carefully blending dark eyeshadow from the outer corner of the eye to the crease.

“Mix this well to your preferred intensity; Remember to be daring with this look. Next, apply an eyeliner, which can be liquid or pencil. Start from the outer corners of the eye and work your way inwards. This will enhance the appearance, deepening the smoky effect. Finish the look with mascara.”

5. doll blush

Doll-like rosy cheeks are trending this summer and Walker shares how you can achieve the look.

“You can perfect this look by using a cream or matte blush; however, I recommend opting for a cream blush to create a soft, fresh finish.

“Apply a light layer of pink blush to the apples of your cheeks to add color to your face. Enhance the look with a highlighter for a subtle glow effect.”
