What would be “White Lotus” without its exciting score and those that were acquired “ooh-loo-loo-loo?” That will no longer refer to the original composer of the Cristobal Tapia de Veer series.
The Times confirmed Thursday that the Emmy winner has visited HBO's “Lotus White”, and will not take his musical styles again to the fourth season of the successful series. In an interview published on Wednesday, the Chilean Canadian musician told the New York Times that the creative differences with the Showrunner Mike White led to his departure.
An HBO representative declined to comment.
The composer reflected on his time in the series, including taking the original theme of season 1 to White, who originally had another sound in mind. “He didn't want the song,” said De Veer, added that White opted for the first time for a song with more sensation of a club with a “cold and sexy atmosphere.” From Veer recalled that the song had no “literally edge”, and differed from the “dark and nervous” nature of his compositions.
“It's just a good background music,” De Veer recalled.
De Veer's theme finally made him the air for the opening season of “White Lotus” in 2021 and, thanks in part to his famous tireless war screams, he quickly became a success among fans. For the second year season of the series, Veer raised the original theme, combining operatic voices on an inflatable dance rhythm. As the New York Times points out, that version reached the clubs and became even more popular in social networks.
When fans of “White Lotus” tune in the premiere of season 3 in February, Many noticed that the issue was markedly different. The melody and vocal trills that fans came to love were remarkably absent. From Veer said that “people are furious about changing the issue” and that he told a producer that he is interested in giving the spectators “the longest version with the Loo-Loo-Loos, because people will explode if they realize that they were going there anyway.” The extended version of the theme of season 3- “OOH-LOO-LOOOS”, the original melody and everything) can be found on the YouTube page of De Veer.
“[The producer] I thought it was a good idea, “added Veer.” But then Mike cut that, I wasn't happy with that. “
He added: “I mean, at that time, we already had our last fight forever. So he was just saying that nothing.”
In another part of the interview, De Veer said he received a violent reaction for the theme of season 3, but that the spectators finally heated. Although Veer is “very proud” of his time in the “white lotus”, which has won three victories at Emmy's stellar schedule, he said: “Surely Mike feels that he was not always professional for him because I didn't give him what he wanted.”
He argued that, despite his disputes, he contributed to “those Emmy, people going crazy” for their music, even if it took some time to enjoy it.
“I am very happy to take such risks. That is the main thing why I am happier, it was worth all the tension and almost forcing music in the program, in a way, because I didn't have so many allies there,” he said. “I treasure that more than more than I did was just a success, and it works and that is all, with less fight.
“This was a good fight.”
Throughout season 3, “White Lotus” has caught attention for more than his main song. In recent weeks, the series faced a scrutiny for an incest story and the mention of a non -binary character. The show also faced the heat of the University of Duke to dress a character with university merchandise during a graphic scene.
The end of season 3 of season 3 of “White Lotus” is broadcast on Sunday in HBO.
