Meghan Markle spoke about her reaction after meeting Kate Middleton for the first time in an emotional interview.
The Duchess of Sussex, who was still a TV star when she announced her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017, admitted she was pleasantly surprised to see Kate Middleton, who at the time was Harry's neighbour at Kensington Palace.
Speaking to Mishal Hussein for the BBC, Meghan and Harry said: “It was emotional.”
Harry added: “I mean, I… you know, I've been seeing her for a while where I literally didn't tell anyone. And then William was keen to meet her and so was Catherine, so, you know, being neighbours, we've managed to do it a couple of times… well, quite a few times now, and Catherine's been absolutely… wonderful.”
This happened before Meghan and Kate had an alleged row over Princess Charlotte in 2018.
The bridesmaid dress that had been made for the young woman did not fit her properly, which irritated Kate. She then approached Meghan and the conversation ended in an argument between the two.
A source close to the dress told the Daily Telegraph: “What actually happened was that the dress itself didn't fit Kate's daughter, who was nearly three at the time… Kate had just given birth to her third child, Prince Louis, and was quite excited.”
Speaking to Oprah Winfrey about what really happened before the big royal wedding, Meghan admitted she received an apology from Kate.
Meghan said: “She [Kate] She was upset about something, but she acknowledged it and apologized. And she bought me flowers. A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something related to the flower girls' dresses, and it made me cry and really hurt my feelings.
“And I thought, in the context of everything that was going on in those days leading up to the wedding, that it didn't make sense for me not to do what everyone else was doing, which was trying to be supportive, to know what was going on with my dad and all that. It wasn't confrontational, and I actually think it's… I don't think it's fair for her to go into the details of that, because she apologized.”
