KARACHI: Pakistani cricketer Shaheen Shah Afridi misbehaved with coaches during Pakistan's recent tours to Ireland and England ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, it has emerged after senior manager Wahab Riaz and team manager Mansoor Rana were dropped from the selection committee.
Sources said Geo news the inside story of what happened during practice sessions, saying Shaheen misbehaved with batting coach Mohammad Yousuf during the England tour.
Yousuf called out Shaheen for bowling too many no-balls during a practice session at Headingley, to which the left-arm spinner said: “Let me practice for now and don't talk in between.”
Shaheen's comments did not go down well with the former batsman and the two had a heated exchange of words after that. The coach was reprimanded by the team management after the incident and apologised to Yousuf in front of everyone.
Following Shaheen's apology, the team management dismissed the matter.
Earlier, it was reported that Shaheen misbehaved with the coaches and management during the recent tours but the team management did not take any action on the pacer's inappropriate behaviour, resulting in Riaz and Rana being removed from their posts for breach of discipline.
The sources added that maintaining discipline in the team was the responsibility of the management and an investigation is underway as to why no action was taken against Shaheen despite his misbehaviour.
Players who have formed lobbies within the team are also being investigated, the sources added.
Meanwhile, coaches have also highlighted the unserious attitude of some of the players in their reports.
Players also speak ill of each other, which ruins the atmosphere in the team, the sources further revealed.
It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided on a new formula for the new selection committee of the men's team.
The head coaches of the white-ball and red-ball formats will be included in the national selection committee. Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten will be part of the committee along with Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, along with the captain of the respective format.
