The Eagles are headed to the Las Vegas Sphere this fall

The Eagles land in Las Vegas.

The long-running rock band announced Thursday that it will play eight shows at Sphere, the $2 billion venue with a wraparound video screen just off the Las Vegas Strip, over four weekends this fall starting on the 20th. of September. of which is scheduled for October 19, will go on sale on June 21 (although pre-sale access will be available to various groups starting June 18).

The Sphere residency is apparently part of the Eagles' so-called Long Goodbye, a farewell tour that began in September, seven years after the death of co-founder Glenn Frey, and stopped at Inglewood's Kia Forum for four nights in January.

“Welcome to whatever this is,” singer Don Henley said with a smile to greet the crowd at the first of those Forum concerts. The band has said it will continue to add dates based on audience demand.

The Eagles will become the fourth musical act to play at Sphere following U2, which opened the building last year, and Phish and Dead & Company, which is in the midst of a 30-show residency that runs through mid-August.

Last week, the venue made headlines when a Phish fan said he had received a letter from Sphere banning him from entering the venue after he posted a video of himself smoking a pipe during a concert. Sphere later said he had rescinded the ban.
