SP martyred, three policemen injured in exchange of fire in Mardan, KP

PESHAWAR: A senior police official was martyred and three others were injured in an intelligence-based operation against terrorists in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ijaz Khan embraced martyrdom while a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was injured in the operation.

According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), two wanted terrorists were also killed in the exchange of fire in Katlang tehsil of Mardan. One of them included Mohsin Kadir, one of the most wanted militants.

The injured police officers were taken to a hospital shortly after the incident.

Following the incident, SP Ijaz's funeral prayers were performed and attended by District Police Officer (DPO) Najeeb and other police officers.

On the other hand, a police officer, Qaisar Khan, also embraced martyrdom after being shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists on Monday night in Peshawar.

Policeman Qaisar's funeral prayer was held at Malik Saad police lines. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kashif Aftab Abbasi and other police officials attended.

According to statistics released by the Department of Home Affairs and Tribal Affairs of KP, the areas most affected by terrorism include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur and Tank, while DI Khan and North Waziristan and South Waziristan are included in the areas affected by The terrorism.

Documents from the Home and Tribal areas revealed that a total of 1,050 incidents of terrorism took place in KP last year, while 419 incidents of terrorism took place in the concerted districts and 631 incidents in the merged districts.
