Shirley Bassey reacts after breaking royal protocol

Dame Shirley Bassey was awarded the Order of the Companions of Honour by King Charles during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

Bassey broke royal protocol by receiving honours from King Charles during the ceremony.

She later spoke about her meeting with King Charles and the breach of royal protocol.

Bassey said receiving her latest honour from King Charles made her more nervous than singing for the monarch.

The musician said: “I think it is more stressful to receive the award from his hands than to sing in front of him. I mean, it is something new, different, whereas I have been singing since I was a child.”

She added: “I forgot to bow, but that’s why I grabbed her hands because I forgot to bow. It was instinctive.”

The palace also shared the photos of King Charles and Shirley Bassey with the caption: “Today, The King presented Dame Shirley Bassey, the legendary voice behind some of the most memorable Bond theme songs, with the Order of the Companions of Honour for her services to music.”
