In the annals of the things that I could not have seen, none has been more unexpected than “women with shoulders”, a strange comedy of comedy stop-motion in Spanish, set in the aesthetic world of a film by Pedro Almodóvar by Pedro Almodóvar of the eighties. (Sunday arrives at the midnight of Adult Swim, the house of things that one does not see, and premieres the next day in HBO Max).
Although it takes place in Ecuador, its central character, puppet business (Pepa Pallarés), is Spanish, and it is quite easy to imagine Muse Carmen Maura on paper, although it is also impossible to imagine the story also told, or at all, in any other way. When I call this perfect series, despite the happy imperfections of their puppets and sets, it is not because everything works as it is intended, but because there is nothing with which I can measure it, it occupies its own space created. Each element is necessary. Even presenting it in English would be to lose romantic, dramatic soap opera.
In the center of history is Cuy, a guinea pig that is eaten in Andean South America, although in this narrative they are also used in a version of bullfights. (Some guinea pig are large enough to ride.
Mixtures in their lives are coquita gooduerteuer (Gabriela Cartol), the puppet assistant, apparently happy and happy; Muleta Sword (Kerygma Flores), a matadora in love with puppet; Nina (Nicole Vázquez), the vegetarian daughter of Doña Quispe, who serves a Pro-Uc group as Minister of Refrigeres and Head of Recruitment of Rebel Adolescents: “I have seen myself in the Cuy caged through the prison of the capitalist company, through the iron bars in the vision of the homocentric world,” which will become a game in the prison of the older women.
Not everything will be as it seems.
Created by Gonzalo Cordova (a veteran of “Tuca & Bertie” and “Adam Ruins Eventhing”) and produced by the Mexican animation studio Cinema Ghost, the series is packaged as eight 11 -minute episodes, which is a cartoon length, which constitutes a feature film. In the bill are mystery, suspense, terror, revenge, hot romance (including some sex puppets), masked stalkers, performance art, love notes published with knives, parodies of television and commercial programs, old secrets that come to light and nuns singing Karaoke.
From “Gumby” to “Rudolph” to “Wallace and Gromit” and “The Fantastic Mr. Fox”, Stop Motion is of all the most magical animation forms and in its three -dimensional, three -dimensional and artisanal path as the most similar life, if not necessarily the most vitalian is necessarily. (It may seem heartbreaking, which is also part of its charm). It is an increase in childhood game time, a puppet show in which puppets have been released from puppeteers. The intelligence of execution is as or more important than the fluid it is. “Women who use shoulder pads” make all kinds of tuned tricks, some who notice and more simply accept, and when considered necessary, or simply fun, insert a real hand or mouth of action. It is an exaggerated world, properly for heavy, but emotionally expressive breathing material, even moving and a lot of fun.
