RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi district administration has extended the detention of former National Assembly member Ali Wazir by 15 days, Geo news reported on Sunday.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner has issued MPO 3 against the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader, which gives power to the administration to arrest and detain suspected persons.
The politician is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi as he faces a terrorism case.
Earlier, the district administration had issued orders to keep Wazir in custody from September 4 to 19. However, as per the new orders, he will remain in jail till October 4.
Meanwhile, the PTM leader's lawyers have approached the Rawalpindi High Court in Lahore challenging the MPO orders.
LHC judge Chaudhry Abdul Aziz will hear the case related to the orders on September 24.
The former South Waziristan MP has spent years in prison, having been prosecuted at several police stations for making hate speeches against state institutions. He was released several times, but was arrested again.
Last month, the former MP was arrested by Islamabad police at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, where he was taking a young man injured after an accident involving the politician's car. The news reported.
Police blamed Wazir for disturbing law and order by “manhandling” the policemen besides “snatching a weapon from one of them” at the hospital, leading to the filing of a case against the politician under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
