Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Parliamentarians (PTI-P) President Pervez Khattak on Saturday tendered his resignation from the party after a disappointing performance in the 2024 national elections.

After announcing that he would “take a break from politics” on February 12, the PTI-P chief, who was once considered a close associate of PTI founder Imran Khan but later formed his faction, formally resigned from the presidency and membership of the party.

“I hope this message finds you well, it is with great regret that | I am writing to present my resignation from the position of president and member of the party, due to serious health problems, with effect from today. This decision has not been easy and with deep regret I must renounce the responsibilities that have been entrusted to me,” the resignation reads.

“In the past, it has been an honor and prestige to serve as party president. However, for health reasons, I am unable to fulfill the duties and obligations of this rule to the best of my ability.”

“Thank you once again for the opportunity to serve as party president. I wish the party continued success and prosperity in the future,” it said.

Despite waging a strong election campaign fueled by massive public gatherings, the Pervez-led party managed to win only two provincial seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after the February 8 elections.

Before Khattak's resignation, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) founder and patron-in-chief Jahangir Tareen resigned from their posts after facing setbacks to Nacional level. center.
