Nicole Kidman is mourning the loss of her beloved mother.
The actress, who had been due to land in Venice to receive her Best Actress award for her performance in 'Babygirl', rushed home after learning of the death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman.
The film's director, Halina Reijn, broke the news to Kidman's fans on behalf of the actress.
She quoted Kidman: “I'm in shock and have to turn to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, guided me and created me. I'm beyond grateful to be able to say her name to all of you through Halina.”
The director continued reading Kidman's statement: “The collision between life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
Reijn then simply said: “We love you all, Nicole.”
Meanwhile, a rep for Kidman told PEOPLE that “the family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time.”
