Lady Gaga confirms her engagement during her stay in Paris for the Olympic Games

Lady Gaga is reportedly engaged to tech investor Michael Polansky and has been for months, according to one report.

While in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics, where she performed during the opening ceremony on Friday, the music superstar is said to have introduced Polansky as her fiancé to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.

Representatives for the “Born This Way” singer did not immediately respond to The Times’ requests for comment Monday.

People magazine reported Monday that the couple got engaged “several months ago” but decided to share the news only with their inner circle at the time. Polansky, the chief executive of the Parker Group, which oversees the business and charitable interests of Napster founder and Facebook investor Sean Parker, is said to have popped the question before Gaga’s 38th birthday party in March.

However, the Oscar and Grammy winner reportedly decided not to wear her engagement ring immediately after the event to avoid being photographed wearing it. But that only lasted a short time, as she sparked engagement rumors when she was spotted wearing the sparkler in April.

“They are great together. He is enthusiastic and supportive of her career. He can’t stand being the center of attention, but he lets her shine. He has his own business priorities that she supports,” a source told People on Monday.

Engagement rumors were reignited on Sunday when the French prime minister posted a TikTok video of the singer and her future boyfriend at the Olympics. In it, Gaga can be heard introducing Polansky as “my fiancé” as they watched a swimming event at the Paris Aquatics Center.

“Thank you Lady Gaga for your amazing performance at the opening ceremony. It was breathtaking,” Attal wrote in the caption of the clip, which has received more than 70,000 likes.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, and Polansky were first linked in December 2019, after they were spotted kissing at a New Year's Eve party in Las Vegas. They went public with their public-facing romance a few weeks later, after Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

Gaga was previously engaged to “Chicago Fire” actor Taylor Kinney, but the two ended their five-year relationship in 2016.

In addition to her engagement, Gaga made headlines this weekend for her performance along the Seine River, paying tribute to French dancer and singer Zizi Jeanmaire with her rendition of “Mon Truc en Plumes.”

Ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony, the “A Star Is Born” actress was rumored to perform, though she was not listed in a schedule provided to media in advance, the Associated Press reported. AP also first reported the news that she had pre-recorded her number, which was later played during the live broadcast, due to bad weather in the French capital.

Her surprise performance during the ceremony was the only one that “for security reasons, we had to pre-record late in the afternoon,” Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremony choreographer Maud le Pladec told Variety.[O]Once we knew for sure it was going to rain, we had minute-by-minute updates – we had never followed the weather forecast so closely in our lives.

“We assessed that it would be too dangerous for the artists, even with a few drops of rain. [Gaga] “We wanted to do it without hesitation, so we preferred to film it in advance rather than cancel it,” Le Pladec said. “The ground would have been slippery. I was wearing heels, I was very close to the water, there were stairs… We had to be extremely cautious.”

Joined by a troupe of eight dancers carrying pink feather fans and wearing custom Dior gowns, Gaga sang in French and danced up and down a flight of riverside stairs during the lively, cabaret-inspired performance. She also briefly played the piano.

“I am deeply grateful to have been asked to open the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this year. I am also honoured to have been asked by the Olympic Organising Committee to sing such a special French song, a song to honour the French people and their tremendous history of art, music and theatre,” she wrote on Instagram after the show.

“Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with the French people and French music. I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and, on such a momentous occasion, remind everyone of one of the most magical cities in the world: Paris,” she added, listing all the ways she was inspired by French culture to “give a modern twist to a French classic.”

“I rehearsed non-stop to study a joyful French dance, brushing up on some old skills. Bet you didn’t know I used to dance at a 60s French party on the Lower East Side when I was first starting out! I hope you love this performance as much as I do,” the “Joker: Folie à Deux” star wrote.

“And to all the French people, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in your honour. It is a gift I will never forget! Congratulations to all the athletes competing in this year’s Olympic Games! It is a great honour for me to sing for you and cheer you on! Watching the Olympic Games always brings tears to my eyes! Your talent is unimaginable. Let the games begin!”
