King Charles was deeply affected by Prince Harry's decision to step back from his duties and move to the United States with Meghan Markle, a new book reveals.
Royal expert Robert Jobson has spoken of the monarch's heartbreak after her “darling” son Harry revealed he no longer wanted to be part of the royal family.
Writing in Catherine, Princess of Wales, Jobson shared the deep bond that Charles shares with the Duke of Sussex and the great effort he made to welcome Meghan into the royal family.
“At first, Charles tried to get close to Meghan and treated her with the same love and affection as he did Catherine. But they are very different characters,” she wrote in her new book, according to a report by the newspaper. The express.
“He welcomed her with open arms and wanted her to feel part of the family. That's why Harry and Meghan's behaviour has hurt him deeply,” the author added.
However, after her departure, King Charles became closer to the heir to the throne, Prince William. “Before all this happened, Charles was much closer to his second son than he was to William,” Jobson said.
“But if there is one positive thing to come out of the Sussexes' departure, it is that William and his father are now closer than ever before, perhaps more so than ever before.”
