The mother knows best, that is, Mother Hahn.
Kathryn Hahn announced in an Instagram post on Tuesday that she will play Mother Gothel in Disney's upcoming live-action version of “Tangled.”
“Hey, OOTD, I just found out what that means. So here's my outfit for the day,” the “Agatha All Along” star said before stepping back to casually reveal that she was wearing an oversized shirt with Mother Gothel's face plastered on it. “Simple jeans, glasses, T-shirt. This is easy. You know, just another day.”
Hahn simply captioned her video “OOTD, Mother Gothel.” In case the intent of her post was unclear, Walt Disney Studios also shared her video on their social media accounts.
“You want her to be the bad guy? GOOD. Kathryn Hahn is Mother Gothel in Disney's live-action film, Tangled,” the Disney legend read.
Hahn's announcement comes after months of fan casting, pleas and excitement as speculation swirled about his possible involvement in the upcoming film. In January, Deadline reported that “The Studio” actor was in talks for the role, and Hahn had been fielding questions about the rumors at various red carpets and press events since then. She often evaded investigation by expressing her love for the character or playing “twisted witches.”
Released in 2010, “Tangled” is Disney's animated version of the fairy tale “Rapunzel,” about a young princess with long magical blonde hair who has unknowingly been kidnapped and hidden in an isolated tower. Gothel (voiced by Donna Murphy), is the old witch who posed as Rapunzel's mother to harness the magic of her hair.
Directed by Michael Gracey, the new live-action version of the film will star Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, the outlaw who helps her escape from her tower, respectively.
