Two teens charged in connection with shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, visited two little sisters who are being treated at a hospital after being shot during the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade earlier this week. week.
The Reyes family shared that the sisters, ages eight and 10, were shot in the legs while attending the parade and rally on Wednesday. ABC News reported.
The shooting, which authorities said appeared to be the result of a personal dispute, left one person dead and 22 others injured.
The sisters underwent surgery and will spend several months in casts.
According to a statement from their family, they have started physical therapy and are “making good progress.”
The family thanked the staff at Children's Mercy Hospital as well as the famous Mahomes couple and shared photos from their visit to the hospital.
“We are incredibly grateful for the love, support and prayers during this difficult time,” the family said. “While we are relieved by his progress, the emotional healing continues for all of us.”
According to police, at least half of the victims of Wednesday's shooting are under 16 years old.
Two teenagers were charged Friday with resisting arrest and “weapons-related” offenses in connection with the parade shooting.
