James Gunn offers a sneak peek at Superman's 'best friend'

James Gunn is taking to social media to let fans meet a cast member from his upcoming film. Superman film, who turned out to be a friend of the superhero.

Offering the first look at Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo, the director also celebrated the anniversary of the character, who was introduced in the comics on August 25, 1941.

“Happy birthday to Superman’s friend Jimmy Olsen, who debuted on this day in 1941 (although he appeared earlier as an “office boy” in Action Comics 6),” captions one set photo.

“Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, and Bob Maxwell. Can't wait for you to see @SkylerGisondo's take on #Superman on July 11, 2025. @dcofficial @superman.”

In the comics, Jimmy is part of the Daily Planet, as he works there as a photojournalist and is a colleague of Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

As for the film, James previously announced the end of filming.

“I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world where there aren’t always that many. And the kindness, gentleness, and love I’ve encountered daily on set has inspired me and driven me to keep going when I felt too exhausted to keep going on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It’s been an honor,” he wrote in a post on social media.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
