Warning: The following contains spoilers for “Mean Girls.”
The new movie “Mean Girls” includes quite a few familiar faces. Tina Fey, who co-wrote the original film and the subsequent musical, reprises her role as math teacher Mrs. Norbury. Tim Meadows returns to the screen as the high school principal.
And then this that cameo, which will likely draw gasps from longtime fans. (No, not Megan Thee Stallion, although she appears too.)
Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the 2004 film as Cady Heron, the once home-schooled newbie who encountered the popular and scary Plastics, makes a surprise appearance in one of the musical film's final scenes, as the moderator of the climactic math competition.
“Tonight will be the culmination of everything you've worked for,” he says, explaining the rules of the game and reading out the problems the two teams compete to solve correctly.
Throughout the scene, Lohan makes fun metatextual references to the original film. When the game calls for a tiebreaker matchup, she points to the first film and says, “Well, this has only happened once before.”
And when Cady (Angourie Rice) thinks out loud why she can't remember the relevant lesson from the math problem, Lohan interrupts her train of thought by telling her, “Honey, I don't know your life.” (After all, the person who knows this character best is Lohan herself.)
Cady realizes that comparing herself to other women is not a healthy way to feel good. “This isn't a competition,” she exclaims, and Lohan then reminds her of the scenario: “It kind of is, though.”
After Cady repeats the song “Stupid With Love,” the scene echoes the original and closes with the flashback to Cady's classroom and her iconic winning response: “There's no limit!” And yes, Kevin G (Mahi Alam) once again tears off his shirt in victory.
Lohan's appearance was kept secret throughout the film's press cycle. When asked on the “Hoy” program who from the original movie appears in the new movie, Fey shrugged, “I don't know, you have to come see. There are wonderful surprises throughout the film, I would say.” And although Lohan attended the premiere of the new film, He only talked about the legacy of the first film during interviews on the red carpet.
This cameo isn't the first time Lohan has revisited “Mean Girls.” Last year, Lohan, along with Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Rajiv Surendra and Daniel Franzese, reprized her roles in Walmart's Black Friday commercialswhich revisited the beloved characters as parents of high school students.
And in 2019, she and her castmates led a social media campaign with the Thirst Project. to raise funds for freshwater wells in Uganda. The efforts took place, of course, on October 3rd.
