Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government is determined to provide free and state-of-the-art healthcare services to deserving patients across the country at the Jinnah Medical Complex in Islamabad, which he said will be one of the best medical facilities in the region.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the complex, the prime minister said the facility will offer 100 per cent free medical services.

“This is the gift of the coalition government not only to the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad but also to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that once completed, the medical complex will offer the world's best healthcare facilities with various sections for diseases related to heart, kidney, lung, cancer and others.

He said the hospital will also be equipped with a modern first aid emergency section with an air ambulance service for patients in hard-to-reach areas.

Prime Minister Shehbaz promised that nursing schools and laboratories would also be established at the hospital and deserving patients would avail the facility of 100% free laboratory tests.

The Prime Minister stressed that this was the same model envisioned by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif to provide free medical facilities only to the poor and paid facilities to the rich people at the same place.

He especially thanked the Chairman of Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Sultan Ali Allana, and Prince Rahim Agha Khan for providing free technical support for the project and paid tribute to the Agha Khan Foundation for its decades-long services to the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz has directed the authorities concerned to complete the project within a year.

“Although one year is a difficult timeframe for such a large project, with determination and hard work, it was possible,” he said, while giving instructions to continue working on the project around the clock to meet the deadline.

He assured that there will be no financing problems on the part of the government.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his gratitude to Islamabad Chief Commissioner Ali Randhawa for providing land for the project, as well as to the Finance Minister, Finance Secretary and Planning Minister for their support to the project.

As for compensation to the affected people, the Prime Minister ordered to provide a one-stop service to the affected people to resolve their problems without delay.
