PESHAWAR: Nepotism and family ties appear to dominate the 15-member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet, which was 'finalised' by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in consultation with the chief minister of the province, Ali Amin Gandapur.

The 15-member cabinet sworn in by KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on Wednesday includes a notable number of family members of the PTI central leadership.

Among those who got a seat in the province's top executive body were party general secretary Omar Ayub's cousin Arshad Ayub Khan and Aqib Ullah Khan, younger brother of party leader Asad Qaiser.

Faisal Tarakai, brother of provincial leader Shahram Khan Tarakai, along with former federal minister Noorul Haq Qadri's nephew Adnan Qadri, have also been inducted into the Gandapur cabinet.

Meanwhile, prominent party leader Sher Afzal Marwat's brother Khalid Latif has been appointed special advisor to the prime minister.

Other cabinet members include Shakeel Ahmad, Fazal Hakim Khan, Muhammad Sajjad, Meena Khan, Fazal Shakoor, Nazir Ahmad Abbasi, Pakhtoon Yar Khan, Aftab Alam Khan Afridi, Khaleeq Ur Rehman, Syed Qasim Ali Shah and Muhammad Zahir Shah.

Additionally, Muzzammil Aslam, Syed Fakhar Jehan, Muhammad Ali Saif, Mashal Azam and Zahid Chanzeb have been appointed as advisors to the prime minister.

Meanwhile, PTI's Shah Toor, while speaking to Geographic newsHe claimed that the cabinet members were appointed on “merit” after the approval of the PTI founder.

According to the party's internal perception on Gandapur's nomination for the KP premiership, PTI workers supported the decision and termed his nomination as the best option.

The 15-member cabinet was sworn in after Gandapur received a nod of approval from the jailed party founder after a meeting with him at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, on Tuesday.

After defining the cabinet members, the prime minister did not reveal their names, as certain factions within the party pressured him to accept their candidates, News learned from the sources.

Interestingly, most of those considered and approved as cabinet members by the PTI founder were unaware of his selection.
