It was a wild, evil wind that broke down the doors to let him in.

Or perhaps it was simply the distraction of a record crowd that led to Chris Martin falling through a trapdoor at Coldplay's Sunday concert in Melbourne.

“That, uh, wasn't planned,” the “Viva la Vida” singer commented as he readjusted his microphone and took the stage again. “That was almost a YouTube moment.”

Aside from a case of “nervousness,” Martin assured fans that he did not suffer any injuries. Martin looked down through the stage door and thanked the crew members who came to his rescue, joking, “You get a bonus, you get a bonus.”

A representative for Martin did not immediately respond Tuesday to the Times' request for comment.

The mishap comes less than a month after the pop star Olivia Rodrigo fell from the stage while performing in Melbourne, albeit in a different setting.

During his final Guts tour stop at Rod Laver Arena, Rodrigo was running around the stage, pointing at cheering fans, when he fell through a trapdoor. “I'm fine,” he said as he recovered, “Where was I?”

The “Vampire” singer then poked fun at herself and posted a dramatic edit of the fall on tiktok.

After Guts' tour wrapped in late October, Rodrigo recounted the incident to Jimmy Fallon in an appearance on his late-night show.

“It was really scary,” Rodrigo said, confirming that she was unharmed. “I mean, the show must go on. That's show business, baby.

Meanwhile, Coldplay's Music of the Spheres world tour, which began in March 2022 and concludes with a 10-day run at London's Wembley Stadium in September 2025, continues on Wednesday in Sydney.

The British band's four-night performance in Melbourne broke the Marvel Stadium record with 227,000 attendees across all shows, the venue announced Sunday. The record was previously held by AC/DC for 14 years with a total of 181,495 concertgoers across three shows in 2010, according to Billboard.

Coldplay's tenth studio LP, “Moon Music,” was released on October 4 and became the band's tenth consecutive number one album on the Official UK Albums Chart. It also recorded 237,000 graphics units in its first week, making it the Best-selling debut by a UK act in three years.

Despite its success, “Moon Music” is among Coldplay's final projects, as the band plans to release only two more “proper albums” before calling it quits, Martin said. he told Apple Music's Zane Lowe last month.

“Less is more, and for some of our critics, even less would be even more,” he said. “It's really important that we have that limit.”
