Ariana Grande has confirmed that a song from her upcoming album is a “mean girl anthem.” Inspired by the 1998 track. The boy is Mine by Brandy and Monica.
Grande's reimagined version of the song bears the same name. “I love that song. I always wanted to reimagine that song in some way,” he told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 Thursday.
The upcoming seventh studio album from Positions the hitmaker is called eternal sun. The boy is Mine is the eighth track on the album, which is the first since 2020's Positions album.
The Grammy winner also told Lowe that her leaked song Fantasize It greatly influenced her album, after she noted that her fans “love it a lot.”
“I think I thought, 'This is a really bad idea,' I guess, but… There's a big group of my fans that really love the bad girl anthem,” she said.
In a conversation with Sang, she also explained her reaction to how loved Fantasize became. “And I was like, 'a) you're all absolute hypocrites, and b) that's crazy! It's so cheesy!' But it's okay. I took the note and gave them Ariana's version on the album. I would say that exists. So some of those young ideas from that era made it onto the album, which is really exciting, but now they're completely different.”
