Adele is taking care of herself, per doctor's orders.
Screaming sick, the powerhouse vocalist postpones five weekends of her Weekends With Adele residency at Caesars Palace. in Las Vegas due to an illness he said he battled during recent shows and which has returned with a vengeance.
“Unfortunately I have to take a moment and pause my residency in Las Vegas. “I was sick at the end of the last stretch and during the whole break,” the “Easy On Me” and “Rolling in the Deep” singer wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I hadn't had the chance to regain my full health before the shows resumed and now I'm sick again, and unfortunately it's all taken a toll on my voice. And so, by order of the doctor, I have no choice but to rest deeply.”
The remaining five weekends of this leg (10 shows total in March) will be postponed, he said, and his team “is already working on the details and information will be sent to you as soon as possible.”
“I love you, I will miss you very much and I am sorry for the inconvenience x,” wrote the 35-year-old balladist in the caption of the publication.
Representatives for Caesars Entertainment did not immediately respond Wednesday to the Times' request for further comment.
Adele unexpectedly postponed the residency in January 2022, a day before it opened, blaming the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues. She later explained that the postponement was because her “artistic needs” were not met and she said the show “had no soul” and “lacked intimacy” within the 4,000-seat Colosseum theater.
Eleven months later, the 16-time Grammy winner finally launched the long-delayed production at the venue to much fanfare in November 2022. She announced a second leg in March 2023 along with a concert film because, she said, “playing for 4,000 people ”. people for 34 nights is not enough.” That section ran from June to November.
The tour-shy artist extended his glamorous run again last October and will close in mid-June. He hasn't missed a show since he began the residency, selling out all 80 of his performances over 40 weeks, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In January, Adele announced a quartet of separate shows in Munich this August and then added six additional dates due to “unprecedented demand.”
The star, who underwent vocal cord surgery in 2011 and canceled a world tour because of it, alluded to taking a break from singing during her show Saturday at the Coliseum.
“I can't play my lead notes correctly. I didn't sleep very well and my chest is burning. Right after this show, I'm going to rest my voice,” she told the audience, according to the Review-Journal.
The “I Drink Wine” and “Chasing Pavements” singer also joked during the show that her vocal quality was similar to that of the sea witch from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”: “Ursula of the Ocean has come out of my chest this evening”.
Before her residency began, and long before she extended it, the British superstar said she planned to take a break from music and perhaps pursue a degree in English literature or an acting career. Since then, she has repeatedly expressed interest in expanding her family with her boyfriend Rich Paul, whom she has occasionally referred to as her “husband.” She has also said that she wants to give a brother to her son Angelo, whom she shares with her ex-husband Simon Konecki.
However, during a show in January, she said she might be open to touring again after completing a follow-up to her 2021 album, “30.” But she's not thinking about that either.
“I just don't think I'm going to write an album for quite some time,” he said, according to Billboard. “But next time I do, I'll go to wherever you live.”
